“Our Taste of Summer” June Events at Art Presence Art Center
Our Taste of Summer
Art Presence has partnered with Jacksonville’s newest wine club, NewNapaWine.com to present an educational wine event in our new classroom for the Britt Festival’s “Taste of Summer” concert season opening and celebration of southern Oregon wines in a double debut that makes Art Presence Art Center the perfect spot to kick off Jacksonville’s June 7 celebration.
Begin your Taste of Summer at Art Presence Art Center, next to Jacksonville’s historic courthouse at 206 North Fifth Street, where New Napa Wine will present “WineHerb Academy II” at 11am; a local Master Gardener will discuss pairing seasonal herbs with this quarter’s wine club picks while pinpointing herbal notes in the wine.
Taste of Summer tickets, armbands and wine glasses will be available at our gallery. Attend the WineHerb Academy, view our June art exhibit, “Our Taste of Summer,” begin your wine tasting experience here with New Napa Wine’s quarterly wine club selections, then stroll through downtown Jacksonville to explore more wines produced by southern Oregon wineries. New Napa’s wine tasting continues at the gallery until 4pm.
Sign up with New Napa Wine for additional benefits:
~ 12-5pm Free quarterly wine selection pickup
~ Wine/Herb tool for summer cooking
~ Wine Herb pairings all afternoon

A Taste of Summer with Art Presence
Yesterday’s Taste of Summer opening celebration of the Britt Festival was a colorful…artistic…and hot! way to welcome the 2013 concert season and summer in Jacksonville. There was art all over town, and Art Presence led the way. We know a picture is worth a thousand words, so I’ll keep my typing brief (it’s another beautiful day out there today!) and post the pictures I took of our artist members making sure art had a presence in town and the kids who participated in the art activities we presented on the lawn in font of the gallery. For more pictures of the day’s arts & culture color, please see my live blog post at Art Matters! And if you happen to see a picture of yourself or your own art, please click on any picture in this post or the one at Art Matters! to see the large version and download that beauty! (FYI – when live blogging, time is of the essence, so the pictures there didn’t get as much attention as the ones posted here, but there are more of them.)

June 2013 Exhibit & Events
“Coastal – By the Sea”
This month Art Presence presents an exhibition of member artist works depicting seaside subjects to celebrate the coming of summer. Show runs from June 7 to June 30.
Member Artist Tana Domecq-Davis also presents a solo show of oil paintings in the front gallery.
Artist Member Judy Elliott of Dragonfly Designs West will be showing two of her handpainted silk wall hangings for the first time this month! Of these works, Judy says, “I grew up in Hawaii, exposed to the ocean and all of its wonders. Whenever I think of it, I go into a tranquil place and can see it in my mind’s eye. This is where the jellyfish were. Although crayfish are not a saltwater creature, they remind me of the sugar cane fields that surrounded me on the plantation, which had irrigation ditches and reservoirs with tilapia and crayfish in them. You may view these silk wall hangings, which will be on display at the Art Presence Art Center gallery, through the month of June.”
Please join us for an opening reception and meet the artists on Friday, June 14 from 5-7pm.
“Taste of Summer” Britt Festival Opening Celebration
Join us on the lawn in front of the art center on June 8 from 11-3pm, where we will have five tables, each set up with materials children can use to make art with watercolors, oil pastels and more! Kids who participate and complete a work of art also get to enjoy a FREE ride on the Jacksonville trolley!

Thank you!
Taste of Summer was a wonderful success this year! Thank you for all you did to help support the event — by participating, by helping with day of preparations, and by being part of our wonderful town of Jacksonville. By all accounts it was a great day — wine tasting sales were up 50% over last year, businesses were hopping, music was well received and visitors had a great time.
We’re planning for the 2013 Taste of Summer to be Saturday, June 8, and we’ll start our planning in earnest after the first of the year. We’re hoping to build on current successes, and keep improving to make the event better each year.
Thank you again for all you did to make the event a success!
