Angel Makes Cover of Jacksonville Review

Posted by on Dec 9, 2021 in Angels Show, Guest Exhibits, Open Shows | 0 comments

Have you have seen the cover of the December-January issue of the Jacksonville Review? Then you’ve seen the angel entered in this year’s Angels Show by Denali Rose Grace!

Denali Rose Grace - Blackbirds and Me, 13 x 11 acrylic painting
“Blackbirds and Me,” 13 x 11 acrylic painting $250

It’s always an honor for an artist to see their work on the cover of this local publication. Firstly, publisher Whit Parker is all about art and is committed to promoting local artists through his publication. Further, he is a very discriminating art enthusiast with a large collection of carefully curated works by local artists. And finally, not every artist can submit an image large enough to look its best at the required print size. So you can see why this is a very special opportunity for Denali and her very appealing angel.

Denali Rose Grace lives in Southern Oregon, surrounded by woods and wildlife. She holds a B.F.A., B.S., and Masters in Education. An artist, teacher, and Way Shower, she works with her intuition in many broad and varied ways. Grace teaches Intuitive Painting to individuals who are serious about going deep into finding their own souls’ art techniques. She finds great JOY in being of service…much like an angel! 9th Annual Angels Show, Galleria Gifts & Virtual Tour

Posted by on Dec 6, 2021 in Angels Show, Events, Guest Exhibits, Open Shows, Virtual Tours | 0 comments

For 2021, Art Presence December Exhibits include a continuation of our November members show and the 9th Annual Angels Show, as well as holiday-themed artisan treasures in our Galleria—perfect for holiday gift-giving! Both exhibitions are on the walls and ready for your visit.

A Thought From Our Founder:

December at Art Presence brings the 9th Annual Angels Show. Why, for the ninth year, are we showing such a lively interest in the invisible world? Some of the greatest among the saints and men of God have found a place for Angels. Many of the most difficult questions about their nature, their grace, their intellect, and their love have been addressed masterfully. Their mission has always been to look after each of us here on earth in the pursuit of our salvation. Regardless of our question “why,” we invite you to join our artists as they present their unique perspectives on these winged, haloed beings.
~ Anne Brooke

A Little Angel Art History

Angel-like beings have appeared in art for millennia. However, the earliest artistic interpretation of an angel was found in the catacomb of Priscilla in the 3rd century…with no wings! Though there is some dispute about this, the angel is generally believed to be Gabriel, delivering the Annunciation to Mary.

Winged angels first emerged in 4th century Anatolia—on the Prince’s Sarcophagus, found at Sarigüzel, near Istanbul (c. 379–395)—the first of many found in Byzantine art. Check out this interesting piece on angels and their wings here, and another on the history of angels in art here.

Meanwhile, humanity’s ancient fascination with these celestial creatures continues to this day. Many artists return year after year with fresh artistic interpretations painted especially for the Angels Show with imagination and inspiration. Here’s “The Guardian,” a small yet powerful impressionistic piece in oil by Katy Cauker:

Come view the Angels Show from 11am–5pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. At least 2 angels had sold by the time we hung them on the wall, so if you find one that speaks to you, make that purchase before someone else does! Really? You have enough angels in your own home? Why not consider giving one to someone who needs a beautiful guardian in theirs! Note: angel art needs to remain in the gallery until the show is over. You might be able to discuss a special angel certificate with the artist if you plan to give one as a gift.

The Angels Show is on display at Art Presence Art Center at 206 N. Fifth Street in Jacksonville, Oregon. It runs from Friday, December 3, through Sunday, January 2. Moreover, the gallery is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12–5 pm. Watch our Facebook page for featured angels throughout the month! Meanwhile, here is a virtual tour of the December members show and the 9th Annual Angels Show to get you started.

CALL TO ARTISTS

ART PRESENCE ART CENTER
DECEMBER 2021

Answer the 2021 Angels Show Call to Artists and join us for the 9th Annual Angels Show!

Art Presence Art Center again hosts the Southern Oregon Artists Resource Angels Show as their December Guest Exhibit, alongside their well-attended annual Holiday Treasures show. We want to see your artistic interpretation of angels!

Space is limited, so the Angels Show is now juried, with a limit of two pieces per artist accepted. There is a size limit of 48” in any direction. All Angels must be your own original artwork—no giclées, please! All angels must be for sale, with 2D pieces wired and ready to hang and 3D pieces with a base. Paintings can be gallery wrapped or professionally framed. Please include a summary of the pieces you wish to submit, including dimensions, medium, and price. Angels must remain on display until the exhibit ends.

We will hang the angels on Thursday, December 2. The show opens Friday, December 3, and continues on display until Sunday, January 2. Due to COVID, we do not plan to have a reception again this year, but the gallery will shoot a virtual tour of the show. The video will be posted on the Art Presence and Southern Oregon Artists Resource websites and social networks.
Art Presence does not charge a fee for participating but will realize 35% of all sales.

Drop-off of angel artworks takes place from November 29–30 from 1–4 pm each day. Artists will be notified of the status of their art’s acceptance by December 2. Please pick up works that are not accepted December 3–5. While we handle your angels with utmost care, Art Presence is not responsible for loss or damage to artwork.

Please call or email gallery director Anne Brooke with your questions.

October 2021 Art Exhibits and Events

Posted by on Sep 7, 2021 in Arts & Letters Zoom Chats, Classes, Events, News, October Creative Challenge, Open Shows, Second Saturday ArtWalk | 0 comments

The 8th Annual October Imaginarium is open! This year’s theme, Reality or Illusion?, resulted in a wonderful collection of artwork depicting Autumn, Halloween, and imaginative ideas building upon the theme. The exhibition opened on Friday, September 17, and continues through Halloween. The gallery is open Fridays and Saturdays from 12–5 pm and Sundays from 10–5 pm. The Imaginarium is always a well-attended, popular show and this year’s collection is a must-see!

Grateful thanks to the Human Bean for their support of this exhibition.

October’s Second Saturday ArtWalk takes place on Saturday, October 9 from 3–6 pm. Some artists will demonstrate their skills outdoors on California Street while others show their work inside a downtown Jacksonville shop. Look for the yellow flags marking participating merchants. The gallery remains open until 6 pm on Saturday for the ArtWalk and opens at 10 am on Sunday for the convenience of Farmer’s Market visitors.

If you can’t make it to the gallery, you can still see a virtual tour on our website, https://art-presence.org. To inquire about the art that moves you or schedule a private gallery viewing, contact Anne Brooke at 541-941-7057 or anne@brookewatercolor.com.

Anne Brooke and Ginna BB Gordon kick off the fall Arts & Letters Zoom chats with a conversation about the next novel in Gordon’s Lavandula Series, “Humming in Spanish,” on Friday, October 22 at 5 pm.

As our annual October show illustrates, making art doesn’t have to be so serious that you can’t have fun. Reserve a Thursday evening with up to 7 of your friends and learn how to paint with watercolors in Anne Brooke’s “Wine and Watercolor” workshop. All art supplies are provided, so simply bring your favorite wine and hors d’oeuvres and enjoy painting in a social atmosphere! $25 per person, vaccination required.

Local Artists: Art Presence has studio spaces available in our Loft. The benefits are many, with reasonable month-to-month rent, convenient location, your own key and water. Please contact Anne Brooke to inquire.
