8th Annual Angels Show
We are excited to announce the opening of the 8th Annual Angels Show at Art Presence Art Center! In September we sent out a call to artists to create angel art for this year’s exhibition. The pieces entered by members and artists who responded to our call are extraordinary, with a total of 36 works of art now on display. This year’s angels are revealed in both 2D and 3D artworks, including ceramic and assemblage sculptures and paintings from classical realism to abstract.
We are shooting our virtual tour of the show today and will post it here and on our Facebook page as soon as it’s ready.
Meanwhile, you might see an angel you would like to inquire about, or you might want to see the show in person even though the gallery is closed to the public due to current COVID-19 restrictions in Jackson county. Either way, please contact gallery director Anne Brooke at anne@brookewatercolor.com or call 541-941-7057 to make your inquiry, purchase and angel, or make an appointment for a private viewing of the show in the gallery. Patrons have found making appointments works well for them.
Below is a sneak peek at some of the angels you can expect to see in the show. We’re adding new angels every day as we feature them, so by Christmas all the angels in the show will be present here:
Remember that our Holiday show, “Season of Cheer,” featuring fine art in the main gallery and gift-worthy artisan treasures in the Galleria, continues through Sunday, December 27.

2020 Angels Show CALL TO ARTISTS!
It’s that time again! Time to find your angel art or create something new and submit it in response to the Southern Oregon Artists Resource 8th annual 2020 Angels Show call to artists. Here’s the application form with rules and procedures that you can download and complete, then submit with your angel art at the gallery. Please include titles, dimensions and medium for each piece.
We don’t ask for traditional representations of angels, though they are welcome. What we’re looking for is unique artistic interpretations of angels. We have seen some amazing interpretations over the years and look forward to seeing yours!
This year we’re changing things up a little for the Angels Show. First, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we do not plan to have a reception. However, the gallery will produce a virtual tour video that we will post widely across our websites and social networks. Second, to keep the works on display to the level that the gallery’s patrons have come to expect, the show is now juried. Finally, due to space limitations and our mutual desire to display every artist’s art without crowding, each artist will have a maximum of two pieces accepted. There is also a size limit of 48″ in any direction for all pieces. And we have to say this…all angels must be your own original artwork – no giclees, please! As always, all angels must remain on display until the show ends.
Here’s how to submit your angels for jurying and a timeline of important phases between now and the show’s opening:
- Visit this link to download the form, print and complete.
- Include a summary of information about your art with titles, dimensions and medium for each piece.
- Bring your angel art to the gallery with your form and summary on November 23, 24 or 25. **Be sure to wear your mask and be prepared to observe social distancing measures while in the gallery. Hand sanitizer is available at the front desk.
- Jurying takes place the week following Thanksgiving. Artists are then notified of the status of their work’s acceptance.
- Pick up artwork that is not accepted at the gallery on December 4, 5 or 6.
- We hang the angels on the back wall of the gallery on December 2.
- The show opens Friday, December 4 and continues through Sunday, December 27.
- Pick up unsold angels on Monday, December 28.
All angel art must be for sale, and Art Presence realizes 35% of sales. There is no additional fee for submitting your art or participation in the show.
**IMPORTANT! Please note that the gallery observes mandatory masking and social distancing guidelines. When you come to the gallery to drop off and pick up artwork, you must wear a mask and observe physical distancing of at least 6 feet. Artists manning the gallery are keeping everything clean and safe, and hand sanitizer is available at the front counter.
We are so excited to see the angels that this year’s artists submit! In light of the difficulties this year has presented for all of us, angels are just the thing to wrap up the year. We hope you find comfort and inspiration in creating your angels for this year’s show. Let’s make this is best angels show yet! Thank you so much for answering the 2020 Angels Show Call to Artists!

Seventh Annual Angels Show
Now comfortably settled into its new home at Art Presence Art Center, the Angels Show celebrates its seventh exhibition!
Come to a festive Angels reception on Saturday, December 7 from 1–3 pm after enjoying the Jacksonville Christmas Parade! See dozens of unique artistic interpretations of angels covering the back wall of the gallery! Freestanding angels as well as paintings! Meet the special artists participating in this show!
To get the first look at the show and first opportunity to make one of this year’s angels your own (or give to a friend), come on Friday, December 6, when the show opens at 11 am.
What to Expect
We have seen a wide variety of angels in each past Angels show – impressionist, realist, and abstract, mystical and cute, fierce and gentle, earthy and celestial, imploring, serving and helping. The artists who participate range from small children to experienced professional artists. We see nearly every medium represented in every show, from oils, watercolors and acrylics to ceramics, bronze, glass and assemblage with natural and/or man made materials. This kind of diversity is present in this year’s show as well.
The angels you see in this post are wonderful examples of abstract angels. Katherine Bird created the golden angel in the 2019 show poster above. Art Presence member Brenda Mills Brannan created the angel below for this year’s show.
A Brief History of the Angels Show
Southern Oregon Artists Resource, an online directory of the southern Oregon art community created by Hannah West Design, sponsored the Angels Show from its inception. Hannah curated the art displays at the GoodBean Cafe in Jacksonville for 7 years. In 2012, Mary Kell, GoodBean co-owner, asked Hannah if she could have angels on the wall for Christmas. Fortunately she asked with enough time for Hannah to send out a call to artists! Mary got her angels and a new Christmas tradition in Jacksonville was born.
When the cafe updated its art policy, the angels lost their nest, so Hannah and Mary asked the executive director of Art Presence if the show might find a new home at the gallery. The angels were received with open arms! Its first time in a true gallery setting, the 2018 Angels show was an amazing exhibition, with 70 pieces of angelic art created by over 40 artists. It won a terrific audience reception and many angels found new homes with Art Presence patrons.
Give an Angel a Home!
The 2019 Angels show will continue on display until Sunday, December 29. The angels are on display concurrently with Art Presence’s annual Holiday Treasures show. Holiday Treasures let you take your art finds home upon purchase for giving during the holiday season. However, the angels must remain on display through the end of the show. We believe that our artist’s angels make perfect holiday gifts, so we encourage you to consider giving an angel to that special person on your gift-giving list.

Call to Artists – Angel Art for 7th Annual Angels Show
Southern Oregon Artists Resource and Art Presence Art Center call to artists for angel art to be exhibited in our Seventh Annual Angels Show this December.
We seek your INTERPRETATION of angels in your choice of medium and style. You are not limited to the traditional or religious styles commonly seen this time of year. The amazing variety of angels in various mediums, styles and techniques in past shows has drawn many favorable comments from attendees and patrons. We prefer new angels, but gladly invite prior years’ artists and their angels to return.
We have some pedestals to accommodate freestanding 3D angels, but you should be prepared to bring your own. For 2D art, there is a limit of 2 pieces with a maximum dimension of 48 inches each.
Submissions are not technically juried, but we do review and prioritize them in the event we run out of space. If this occurs, new angels will have priority over repeat entries. Painting a new angel for this year’s show? Send us an email to let us know as soon as possible! Please include the approximate dimensions of your piece(s).
Important Dates
- Entry Deadline: November 18th.
- Artwork drop-off dates: November 23, 24 and 25th.
- We will hang the show on Thursday, December 5th.

Angels Display
The Angels Show hangs on the back wall of the gallery. It is exhibited alongside the gallery’s popular Holiday Treasures show of gift items. Holiday Treasures always draws a steady stream of holiday shoppers throughout the month. Therefore, the Angels Show is virtually guaranteed a wide audience. Art Presence Art Center is conveniently located at 206 North 5th Street in Jacksonville, Oregon.
Advertising and Promotion
We had wonderful audience reception and respectable sales in 2018, our first show in a true gallery setting. Art Presence and SOAR will promote the exhibition through social media and local print media to ensure another great reception this year. We ask artists to help by sharing their angels on social media with the details of the show and reception.
Submit Your Entries!
Please download and fill out the entry form below. Submit your entry to gallery director Anne Brooke with images of your angel art at anne@brookewatercolor.com. Anne will also be happy to answer any questions not addressed on the form.
