Angels Show

Art Presence Art Center presents the annual Angels Show every December. Goodbean Coffee and Southern Oregon Artists Resource sponsor this exhibition of original angel-themed art. Angels Show History Mary Kell, co-owner of GoodBean Coffee in Jacksonville, Oregon, had the original idea for the Angels Show. At the time Hannah West curated the cafe’s art exhibits. Using her connections through Southern Oregon Artists Resource, she began sending annual calls to artists. Ultimately she curated four Angels Shows for the GoodBean. What is the key to the show’s appeal? Artists are not limited to traditional or Christmas-style angels. Free to experiment, they create their own artistic interpretations. Therefore participating is fun and challenging for artists. Furthermore, the show offers a wonderful diversity of medium, style and creative interpretation for viewers and collectors. Not surprisingly, there is something for everyone in every Angels Show! For this reason the show gained increasing traction in the community each year. Changes However, things changed in 2017. For personal reasons on both parts, the angels lost their home. So, in 2018 Mary and Hannah asked Anne Brooke of Art Presence about moving the show to their gallery. The Art Presence Board of Directors approved, and all agreed to host the show at Art Presence. Consequently Art Presence billed the Angels Show as a Guest Exhibit. Hannah stayed on as curator. And the show proved a befitting companion to the gallery’s popular Holiday Treasures show. Future The reboot was a tremendous success and set new records for the show. Over 40 artists participated, contributing 70 pieces of original angel art. In addition, over 175 people attended the reception. Most importantly, the works of angel art were very well received. As a result, the Angels Show will continue indefinitely in its new gallery home. Now we anticipate the coming year’s Angels Show. And we invite you to the reception on the first Saturday of December. So come and see why the Angels Show has become a beloved part of Jacksonville’s Christmas tradition. Perhaps one will find a new home with you!

“Blackbirds and Me,” 13 x 11 acrylic painting $250

It’s always an honor for an artist to see their work on the cover of this local publication. Firstly, publisher Whit Parker is all about art and is committed to promoting local artists through his publication. Further, he is a very discriminating art enthusiast with a large collection of carefully curated works by local artists. And finally, not every artist can submit an image large enough to look its best at the required print size. So you can see why this is a very special opportunity for Denali and her very appealing angel.

Denali Rose Grace lives in Southern Oregon, surrounded by woods and wildlife. She holds a B.F.A., B.S., and Masters in Education. An artist, teacher, and Way Shower, she works with her intuition in many broad and varied ways. Grace teaches Intuitive Painting to individuals who are serious about going deep into finding their own souls’ art techniques. She finds great JOY in being of service…much like an angel! 9th Annual Angels Show, Galleria Gifts & Virtual Tour

Posted by on Dec 6, 2021 in Angels Show, Events, Guest Exhibits, Open Shows, Virtual Tours | 0 comments

For 2021, Art Presence December Exhibits include a continuation of our November members show and the 9th Annual Angels Show, as well as holiday-themed artisan treasures in our Galleria—perfect for holiday gift-giving! Both exhibitions are on the walls and ready for your visit.

A Thought From Our Founder:

December at Art Presence brings the 9th Annual Angels Show. Why, for the ninth year, are we showing such a lively interest in the invisible world? Some of the greatest among the saints and men of God have found a place for Angels. Many of the most difficult questions about their nature, their grace, their intellect, and their love have been addressed masterfully. Their mission has always been to look after each of us here on earth in the pursuit of our salvation. Regardless of our question “why,” we invite you to join our artists as they present their unique perspectives on these winged, haloed beings.
~ Anne Brooke

A Little Angel Art History

Angel-like beings have appeared in art for millennia. However, the earliest artistic interpretation of an angel was found in the catacomb of Priscilla in the 3rd century…with no wings! Though there is some dispute about this, the angel is generally believed to be Gabriel, delivering the Annunciation to Mary.

Winged angels first emerged in 4th century Anatolia—on the Prince’s Sarcophagus, found at Sarigüzel, near Istanbul (c. 379–395)—the first of many found in Byzantine art. Check out this interesting piece on angels and their wings here, and another on the history of angels in art here.

Meanwhile, humanity’s ancient fascination with these celestial creatures continues to this day. Many artists return year after year with fresh artistic interpretations painted especially for the Angels Show with imagination and inspiration. Here’s “The Guardian,” a small yet powerful impressionistic piece in oil by Katy Cauker:

Come view the Angels Show from 11am–5pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. At least 2 angels had sold by the time we hung them on the wall, so if you find one that speaks to you, make that purchase before someone else does! Really? You have enough angels in your own home? Why not consider giving one to someone who needs a beautiful guardian in theirs! Note: angel art needs to remain in the gallery until the show is over. You might be able to discuss a special angel certificate with the artist if you plan to give one as a gift.

The Angels Show is on display at Art Presence Art Center at 206 N. Fifth Street in Jacksonville, Oregon. It runs from Friday, December 3, through Sunday, January 2. Moreover, the gallery is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12–5 pm. Watch our Facebook page for featured angels throughout the month! Meanwhile, here is a virtual tour of the December members show and the 9th Annual Angels Show to get you started.

8th Annual Angels Show

Posted by on Dec 4, 2020 in Angels Show, Events, Open Shows | 0 comments

We are excited to announce the opening of the 8th Annual Angels Show at Art Presence Art Center! In September we sent out a call to artists to create angel art for this year’s exhibition. The pieces entered by members and artists who responded to our call are extraordinary, with a total of 36 works of art now on display. This year’s angels are revealed in both 2D and 3D artworks, including ceramic and assemblage sculptures and paintings from classical realism to abstract.

We are shooting our virtual tour of the show today and will post it here and on our Facebook page as soon as it’s ready.

Meanwhile, you might see an angel you would like to inquire about, or you might want to see the show in person even though the gallery is closed to the public due to current COVID-19 restrictions in Jackson county. Either way, please contact gallery director Anne Brooke at or call 541-941-7057 to make your inquiry, purchase and angel, or make an appointment for a private viewing of the show in the gallery. Patrons have found making appointments works well for them.

Below is a sneak peek at some of the angels you can expect to see in the show. We’re adding new angels every day as we feature them, so by Christmas all the angels in the show will be present here:

Remember that our Holiday show, “Season of Cheer,” featuring fine art in the main gallery and gift-worthy artisan treasures in the Galleria, continues through Sunday, December 27.
