Our Arts & Letters Online Conversations invite you into the homes and studios of local artists and authors.
Free Form Painting: An Online Conversation with Jerrold Simon
Friday, March 4, at 5:00pm Pacific
We present this episode of Arts & Letters in conjunction with our March Guest Exhibit of works by Jerrold Simon, Painting Outside the Box, at Art Presence Art Center in Jacksonville.
In this one-hour livestream, Arts & Letters host, Ginna BB Gordon, talks with Jerrold Simon about his complex paintings and unique approach to creating dimensional canvases.
We’ll show onscreen examples of Simon’s recent works. In addition, there will be time for questions from viewers.
An excerpt from Jerrold Simon’s website:
“Landscape has traditionally been a frozen image, contained by a rectangle or square as if one were looking through a window. To me, the landscape is more alive than that – more dynamic, more active.
“There are weather and clouds and a lower sun (at this latitude) that has a distinct and different effect on light. Coloration and shadows are constantly moving, nothing is static. Storms come and go and wind changes directions. There are real seasons where foliage changes.
“All of this makes you want to move ‘out of the edge’ to create forms that reflect these constantly changing shapes and colors.”
Arts & Letters events are free but advance registration is required.
